VIPERS KRISTIANSAND

Illustrating for Vipers Kristiansand: A Global Collaboration

In 2021, I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with S & B-N, a company based in Kristiansand, Norway. S & B-N is a creative agency specializing in media production, editorial content, and visual storytelling. They work closely with various news outlets, publications, and brands to bring compelling stories to life through high-quality visuals and design.

My partnership with S & B-N centered around a series of illustrations that were featured in a Norwegian news outlet. These illustrations accompanied a piece about Vipers Kristiansand, a professional handball club from Kristiansand, Norway. Vipers Kristiansand has been a dominant force in Norwegian handball, competing in REMA 1000-ligaen, the country’s top division, since their promotion in 2001. The team made history by claiming their first Norwegian championship in 2018, ending an 18-year winning streak by Larvik HK.

This project was an incredible working experience, as it allowed me to collaborate across continents, bridging creative perspectives from different parts of the world. The process was highly collaborative, reinforcing how technology enables artists like myself to connect with clients and creative teams worldwide.

Working on this project was not just about producing illustrations—it was about immersing myself in a new cultural and professional environment. The experience broadened my perspective on international collaboration and reaffirmed my passion for storytelling through art. I look back on this opportunity with gratitude, knowing it has expanded my artistic horizons and opened doors to future global projects.

The process of working on this project was an incredible learning experience. The project scope was set for less than two weeks—a very tight window to develop a series of high-quality illustrations. Despite the challenge, I was determined to make it work. In hindsight, I may have been overly ambitious, especially as I was still relatively new to the freelance illustration scene at the time. I know better now, but the experience was invaluable.

To make the most of the limited timeframe, I provided S & B-N with a series of preliminary sketches early in the process. These sketches served as a foundation, allowing us to refine our vision and ensure we were aligned on the final direction of the illustrations. The approach helped streamline our workflow, ensuring that we met the deadline while maintaining quality.

Looking back, this project reinforced my ability to adapt and work efficiently under pressure. It was a pivotal moment in my journey as a freelance illustrator, shaping the way I approach future projects with better planning and time management. Ultimately, despite the challenges, we successfully brought the illustrations to life, and it remains an experience I am proud to have been a part of.
