THE PHENOMENON THAT WAS CHOESE

What an absurdly weird-ass experience. In an effort to make my friend laugh with a meme I made, I ended up creating a monster that took on a life of its own...

In the summer of 2024, as a simple warm-up exercise before diving into my illustration work, I sketched up a few drawings and edited them into a 13-second video. To top it off, I paired the visuals with an extremely cursed audio clip—just for laughs. The original intention? Nothing more than getting a chuckle out of my friend and shaking off the creative rust before starting my workday.

I never expected it to go any further than that. But my friend and I found the result hilarious, and on a whim, I decided to post it to my various business social media accounts. Honestly, I was very self-conscious about sharing it. The video was weird—really weird—and completely unlike anything else in my portfolio or online presence. I had no idea how people would react, and I almost didn’t post it at all.

Then…it blew up.

And I mean, blew the fuck up.

Somehow, this bizarre little video took on a life of its own. As of now, it has racked up 27.5 million views, 3.4 million likes, and over 500,000 shares. The response was hilarious and completely unexpected. While many people appreciated it as the absurd joke it was intended to be, others interpreted it in ways I never could have imagined—seeing deep existential meaning in it. Some people related it to the vast complexities of the universe, the nature of existence, life and death, destiny, and fate.

That summer turned into a surreal and fascinating experience as I watched people react, theorize, and assign meaning to what was, at its core, just a goofy warm-up sketch.

But through it all, one thing became even clearer to me:

Embrace the weird. Create what you love.

Because when you’re genuinely passionate about something you're creating, it’s bound to resonate with others—sometimes in ways you’d never expect.
